S6E4 - Why Do Dizis Keep Telling the Same Stories?
This week Eda and Maha ask and try to answer questions about whether the dizi model can keep evolving.

Episode Notes
This week Eda and Maha discuss why do so many Turkish dizis feel like variations of the same story and is that really a problem?
In this episode, we step back from individual shows and look at the bigger picture, asking six questions about the current state and future of Turkish television.
We talk about the industry’s heavy reliance on family melodrama, why Turkey’s international identity is still so strongly tied to that genre, and whether audiences are truly resistant to alternatives like workplace drama, comedy, horror or sci-fi — or whether broadcasters simply no longer give those genres enough room to survive.
We also compare Turkish television with global trends: shorter seasons, stronger concepts, more genre mixing and tighter storytelling. Can 120–150 minute network episodes remain competitive long term? And does Turkish TV even need to follow those trends, given how successful dizis already are internationally?
Finally, we question one of the industry’s biggest assumptions: are audiences really conservative in what they want to watch, or has the ratings system created a market where producers can no longer afford to let viewers discover something different?
Listen and try to figure out with us, is the formula that made dizis successful now also limiting what they can become?
